Polypyrrole-Coated Melamine Sponge as a Precursor for Conducting Macroporous Nitrogen-Containing Carbons

Macroporous open-cell melamine sponges were coated with a conducting polymer, polypyrrole, during in-situ oxidative polymerization of pyrrole. Two samples, differing in polypyrrole content, 8.2 and 27.4 wt%, prepared. They exposed to various temperatures up 700 °C an inert atmosphere. The macroporous structure mechanical integrity preserved after this process. This converted both the coating sponge nitrogen-containing carbons. changes molecular course carbonization followed by elemental analysis FTIR Raman spectra. specific surface area polypyrrole-coated increased from ca. 90 300 m2 g?1 along accompanying increase porosity. conductivity was recorded as function compression newly developed apparatus. containing wt% pyrrole had order 10?2 S·cm?1 at 0.1 MPa pressure, which reduced four orders magnitude when 400–500 nearly recovered temperature reached °C. tested electromagnetic radiation shielding displayed absorption and, lower extent, reflection proportional mainly samples’ conductivity.
